This POCUS pre-course is designed for clinicians who have some experience with POCUS fundamentals and are ready to elevate their bedside ultrasound skills. Participants will expand their diagnostic and clinical acumen by exploring topics such as cardiac image optimization, doppler techniques, valvular pathology, evaluation of right heart function, and nuanced assessment of volume status. Through interactive didactics and expert-led hands-on skills sessions, attendees will integrate next-level POCUS applications into complex clinical cases, gaining practical experience in image acquisition, interpretation, and clinical integration.
*It is recommended that attendees have some experience with fundamental cardiac POCUS skills before attending this course. Attendees may register for this course alone or combine it with the morning session “Fundamentals of POCUS” to further enhance their ultrasound learning experience.

Hospitalists are increasingly tasked with providing both preoperative and postoperative care for medically complex hospitalized surgical patients. For many, perioperative medicine is still challenging due to lack of formal training in high stakes scenarios. This session will cover several key topics and concepts frequently encountered by clinicians managing the care of hospitalized patients undergoing surgery. Topics will include: general preoperative assessment and preparation, cardiac concerns, complication prevention, geriatrics and frailty considerations, complex medication management, VTE prophylaxis, and common complication management. Presenters will review relevant perioperative literature but also point out gaps in evidence and provide practical guidance on how to provide optimal care.

You already use large language models. The real question is whether you use them well — and whether you would stake a clinical decision on what comes back. Most of us are stuck at one-shot: ask, read, take it or leave it. Beyond One-Shot is the course for everything that comes after. In four hours you will master the two skills that separate casual prompting from clinical-grade work: a prompt has an architecture you can learn and repeat, and output is a draft you can audit. You will leave with both — with BRIDGE, a six-point framework (Bias · Reasoning · Information sourcing · Disagreement · Generalizability · Edge cases), you will have applied to your own work before you walk out the door, and with reusable custom prompts you built that turn the work you do in this room into a faster, more efficient week, every week.
This is a hands-on course with lectures attached, not the other way around. Nearly 60% of instruction — 120 of 205 minutes — is spent at six 20-minute stations built around what hospitalists actually do: generating differentials and retrieving evidence, drafting progress notes and discharge summaries, doing scholarly work with citations you can trust, auditing your own output against BRIDGE, sharpening clinical reasoning by prompting the model to disagree with you, and building reusable prompts, skills, and connectors that keep working long after you go home. Two short lectures set up each block — the first teaches prompt architecture (role · context · task · format, then constraints, meta prompting, and recursive prompting); the second demonstrates BRIDGE live on a deliberately flawed output so you watch it catch real failures before you hunt for your own.
You will not get stuck. Every station runs at a 5-to-1 learner-to-faculty ratio — a facilitator close enough to read your prompt and tell you why it isn’t working. Bring your laptop, bring your accounts, and bring the tasks that eat your day. By Monday morning you will be doing things with an LLM you did not know were possible on Friday.

Hospitalists already hold most of the expertise a clinical AI project needs: they know what data a task requires, how that information should be interpreted, and how it must be presented in a workflow to be usable. What they are rarely taught is how those pieces chain together behind the scenes into an automation—a controlled sequence of triggers, data pulls, model steps, guardrails, and human checkpoints—and why the design, evaluation, and monitoring of that chain matter more than the AI itself.
This advanced course moves beyond prompting to AI implementation by deconstructing automations deployed at academic health systems, including patient-friendly discharge instructions with AI judges that grade and gate the AI outputs. Participants will learn the anatomy of clinical automation and the methods used to both prove it works and ensure it continues to work as intended.
They then build their own. Working in small teams, participants will blueprint an automation for a real hospital medicine pain point, define its KPIs and guardrail metrics, model its return on investment, and pitch it for institutional resources. Every attendee leaves with a completed automation blueprint and a leadership-ready pitch.
Completing the morning basic course is helpful but not required. Attendees should be comfortable with basic LLM use.
