Unique Educational Sessions
MED-TED Teaching Competition
April 13, 2024
2:40 – 4:10 p.m.
This inaugural session will feature eight junior hospitalists delivering their best quick teaching sessions. This will be a novel platform for emerging educators, and an exciting venue to demonstrate teaching prowess and presentation skills.
In this event, early- and mid-career hospitalists are meaningfully paired with senior hospitalists to receive guidance in specific areas of career development based on domains of interest and experience. Within the hour, mentees will have the opportunity to spend 15 minutes with their mentor before rotating to the next person. There will be a total of three different mentor-to-mentee sessions.
Research Shark Tank

This session features brief pitches on the innovative ideas in hospital medicine. Expert leaders and the audience will provide feedback on innovations presented. Come see who wins!
Stories from the Journey: 2023 Research & Innovation Finalists

Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at how top research and innovations in hospital medicine develop at “Stories from the Journey: 2023 Research & Innovation Finalists”! This session is jointly hosted by the Academic Hospitalist Committee and Research Committee and includes Rapid-Fire Project Presentations, Longer Form Project Presentations focusing on tips and skills for moving projects forward, and “Where Are They Now?” career updates from previous finalists. Last year’s SHM poster and oral finalist winners will share how their projects developed, evolved, and how the journey contributed to their careers along the way.
Mastering the Interview – Skills Workshop for Residents and Students
April 13, 2024
4:20 – 5:20 p.m.
This 60-minute session will be a workshop-style session that incorporates a brief didactic component, followed by an opportunity for you to go through several rounds of “speed interviews” with faculty from the Physicians In Training (PIT) Committee.
You will have the opportunity to refine your interviewing skills, improve your comfort in interviewing, practice your pitch, and receive real-time feedback. While the session is designed with trainees and early-career hospitalists as the primary focus, it is open to all attendees. At the end of the session, we encourage attendees to stick around for the Resident and Student Special Interest Forum where they will be able to meet peers, learn about making a career in hospital medicine, have questions answered by faculty, and provide feedback on their Converge experience.

ePosters are scheduled to present in small groups throughout SHM Converge, allowing each presenter a dedicated time to shine. Calling all first-time attendees and new SHM members! Come gather together over breakfast to network and hear about all that Converge and SHM membership has to offer.
This event is a dedicated opportunity for Residents and Students to meet and engage with distinguished faculty who have a wide range of clinical and topical expertise across the field of hospital medicine. The intent is to provide trainees with a casual and low-pressure atmosphere with ample opportunity to hear about and ask questions surrounding how to forge a career path as a hospitalist. We encourage attendees to come hungry and with all their burning questions!
*Pre-registration is required for this event, as space is limited.
