The Society of Hospital Medicine encourages participation in the Research, Innovations, and Clinical Vignettes Scientific Abstract Competition as an integral part of the SHM Converge 2024 experience. Submit to present your work in front of a national audience or plan to come see what your colleagues have been working on!

The Call for Abstracts: Research, Innovations, and Clinical Vignettes is open through Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Abstract submitters will be notified of acceptance status in January 2024.

Please view the SHM Converge Scientific Abstract Competition Submission Guidelines for additional information. The Submission Guidelines assist authors in determining the appropriate category for their submission as well as provide required submission information and word/character limitations. SHM uses a standardized, blinded review process to select Research, Innovations and Clinical Vignettes for presentation onsite. High scoring submissions will be eligible for oral/platform presentation and other quality submissions will be invited as poster presentations.

What to Expect Onsite

SHM Is excited to announce that ePosters will continue at SHM Converge 2024! We know tremendous work goes into each abstract, and SHM Converge will emphasize the importance of this work by scheduling time throughout the conference during which small groups of ePosters will be highlighted at each time.

ePosters allow for engagement beyond the bounds of the presentation time! In addition to the ePoster presentations, SHM Converge will host an online gallery which allows for questions and comments that will be accessible for a minimum of 3 months after the conference.

Submission FAQs

No, there are no limits on submissions per author.

Yes, industry abstracts are eligible for submission, as long as they have not been published prior to December 31st of the current year. All complete abstracts go through a peer review process before being accepted for presentation.

Yes, abstracts are published in an online supplement of the Journal of Hospital Medicine. Once published, abstracts can be found on www.shmabstracts.org as well as on the JHM website, as a pdf with scholarly citation. They will be published/go live on the first main-meeting day of the SHM Converge meeting.

To be eligible for presentation onsite at SHM Converge, abstracts may not be published before December 31st of the current year. There is no further restriction on encore abstracts.

No, SHM membership is not required to submit an abstract. If selected, accepted presenting authors are required to be an SHM member by the time of presentation at SHM Converge.

Yes, each abstract submission requires a nonrefundable submission fee payment. Submission fees are separate from meeting registration fees that apply to accepted presenting authors.
