Point-of-Care Ultrasound for the Hospitalist
Course Overview
Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has become an indispensable bedside tool in the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. As frontline providers, hospitalists are using point-of-care ultrasound to guide diagnostic workups and perform invasive bedside procedures on their patients. This Advanced Learning Course introduces fundamental POCUS concepts by combining high-yield didactic sessions with hands-on training. The course starts with a review of the basics of ultrasound technology and then dives into the myriad of diagnostic ultrasound applications: focused cardiac ultrasound; evaluation of pleural effusions, pneumothorax, and ascites; evaluation for lower extremity deep venous thrombosis; and evaluation of abdominal organs. Attendees experience low participant-to-faculty ratios in an interactive atmosphere that is highly conducive to learning. Imaging techniques are practiced on live models with experienced faculty teaching participants. This Advanced Learning Course employs cutting-edge equipment and is led by expert faculty gathered from across the country.
